Synopsis

Short Summary:

After an okay fishing expenditure, a child takes tired steps from their docked canoe into a lush Sakhalin spruce forest. They only wish to go home and out of the eerie forest, but a spirit fancies them. She introduces herself to the child who sheepishly gives a nod and walks away. Enraged by the rudeness and several failed attempts to converse, the child is given chase out of the woods. Backed into a corner, the child only sees the ravine below as their escape. Swimming sometime the child reaches ashore and mistakenly taking the spirit’s extended hand to get out the icy waters, meeting their demise.

Long Summary:

Taking steps into the icy snow, a young child clutches their spear-like weapon closely. Though they continue traveling forward into the Sakhalin spruce tree woodlands, they still turn the head back to see if their docked boat there. A young woman watches from within the forest, her faceless head following the child. She cracks an unsettling yet immature smile. Unaware of their admirer, the child continues venturing into the forest with the spirit trailing silently behind. Curiosity overcomes the spirit, she emerges from behind the spruce introducing herself. The child, still unaware, continued their journey homeward. Uncertain why there is no response, she tries once more. The chold continues walking silently. Trying to stay collected, the spirit reaches her hand out , touching the child's shoulder gently. Shocked, the child turns around staring into a faceless woman, their quivered. Questioning the child’s behavior, the snow lady introduced once more, bowing graciously with a warm smile hoping to converse. Washed over with angst of the unknown, the child nods their head softly and then continues walking away but a bit faster, trying not to look back. A mouth of razor sharp teeth bare from under the spirit's chin. Rage consumed her. Feeling the winds pick up, the child looks around then noticing the spirit was angered by them. Panicking, the child mistakenly drops the spear and makes a run for it with the spirit giving chase through the winding, heavy wooded forest. Sprinting madly out of the forest the child suddenly stops cold as a deep ravine only inches from where they stand. A gush of icy wind bursts from out the forest and an angered spirit stands before the child. Looking for their spear, the child realizes they dropped it out of panic and with only one way out, they allow themselves to fall backwards into the ravine. The spirit lunges hoping to grab the child but was too late, the child clumsily swims in the water. Reaching ashore by their village home, the child is greeted by a hand ready to help them help. The hand was too white to be an alive person but it grabbed the child before they could flee.In Summary:The child does not mean to be rude to the spirit, they cannot hear the words she speaks. They only can read gestures, but it unfortunately leads into a deadly miscommunication.
